2020 Mental Health Guides: Well-being at Work
To celebrate and recognize World Mental Health Day on October 10, 2020, we've put together a series of four guides to help you cultivate your well-being at work.
1. Perfectionism
Most of us have been trained to succeed in competitive environments. No wonder we set high standards for ourselves and can become self-critical when we make mistakes.
But is perfectionism a trait to cultivate or eliminate?
And how can we manage our striving for achievement while avoiding stress, burnout and depression?
2. Presence
We often go through our days not fully present, whether it’s in meetings, talking to colleagues or even during leisure time. While sometimes we need to contemplate events which aren’t going on in the present moment around us, when we do so unintentionally, it harms our well-being, our performance, and our relationships.
3. Sleep
How we feel and perform largely depends on the quality of our rest. And while no one would question the importance of sleep for our well-being, it is often the first thing we compromise when priorities pile up. When there are not enough hours in the day, we steal some from the night. This is a problem. Sleep is not a luxury.
4. Multitasking
In a world full of competing priorities, multitasking promises important gains for our performance. But did you know that the habit of multitasking actually creates the opposite effect to what it promises?
